Quotes

Does it cost anything to ask?

No. Asking us is free and doesn't commit you to anything.

Do you fit the panels yourselves?

No. We don't fit solar panels or batteries. We help you get a quote from an installer, and we only introduce you if you agree.

Who will contact me?

We will, first. Nobody else gets your details unless you agree to a named installer. How quote requests work explains each step.

Do you cover my area?

We take requests from across Newcastle, North Tyneside, Gateshead and Northumberland. Elsewhere in the North East, ask anyway and we'll tell you honestly whether we can help.

How do I stop you contacting me?

Reply to any message from us, or use the contact form, and say stop.

Installation

Do I need planning permission?

Often not for panels on a house roof in England, but there are conditions, and conservation areas and listed buildings have extra rules. The Planning Portal sets them out (rules from 27 August 2026). Your installer should check for your home.

Who tells the electricity network?

Your installer. In the North East that's Northern Powergrid. Most home systems are notified after fitting; larger ones need the network's approval first. The installer deals with the paperwork either way.

Will I need scaffolding?

Usually, yes, so the installer can work safely on the roof. If it has to stand on a pavement or a back lane, the council's permission is often needed, and the installer arranges it.

Is my roof strong enough?

The installer checks the roof's condition and structure on the survey, before quoting.

Is this the same as plug-in solar?

No. Plug-in kits are small panels on a stand that plug into an outdoor socket. Rooftop systems are fitted and wired in by an installer and are usually much bigger. We don't sell plug-in kits on this site.

Batteries

Can I add a battery to panels I already have?

Often, yes. It depends on your current system and where a battery could go. Ask for a battery quote.

Can I have a battery without panels?

Yes. Some people charge one overnight on a cheaper time-of-use tariff and use the power later.

Where does a battery go?

Often a garage, utility room or an outside wall. The installer will suggest the best spot for your home.

Will it work in a power cut?

Some systems can, if they're set up with a backup supply. Ask the installer if it matters to you.
